ASU Law School Custom Concrete Tables and Benches
Phoenix
2016
When Colwell Shelor Landscape Architecture commissioned us to design custom furniture for the ASU Law School, we knew it had to be both functional and iconic. The result was a series of concrete and steel tables and benches, crafted in our signature steel rod base typology that has become a defining look for Gore Design Co.
These weren’t just furniture pieces - they were installations. The tables and benches were so large and substantial that the only way to deliver them was by helicopter lift to the rooftop of the law school. Watching them land in place was a reminder of just how monumental handcrafted design can be.
Each piece was cast in our ultra-high-performance GFRC concrete (UHPC-grade), giving them the strength and durability needed for daily use in a public institutional space. They were sealed with our proprietary reactive sealer, a completely healthy, food-safe, non-toxic finish that ensures safety and longevity without compromising indoor or outdoor air quality.
And if you look closely at the photos from this project, you’ll see another detail we’re especially proud of: large-scale planter cladding panels with stealth fighter–inspired geometry, crafted in our anthracite-colored GFRC. These sharp, faceted surfaces added a sculptural dimension to the rooftop landscape, tying the project together with both strength and subtle sophistication.
This project was a joy to collaborate on with some of our favorite design partners and remains one of our proudest contributions to Arizona’s educational and architectural landscape.
