Cherokee Red concrete countertop designed as a window sill at Camelback Mountain

Camelback Concrete Countertop

Phoenix

2009

Perched on the side of Camelback Mountain, the Camelback Concrete Countertop carried more than its weight in function and beauty. Cast in Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Cherokee Red, the surface doubled as both a windowsill for a pivoting awning window and as a place to rest a glass of wine while enjoying one of Arizona’s most stunning views.

This project is a reminder of what makes concrete unique: it can be designed for dual purpose and precision. The countertop had to seal perfectly when the awning window closed, while also providing a tactile, inviting surface for daily life. Unlike stone or synthetic materials, concrete isn’t cut - it’s created. That means we had full control over the color, profile, and edge, making this design possible.

Handcrafted in Wichita, Kansas, and finished with our healthy, food-safe sealer, this countertop proves that concrete can be as architectural as it is personal, blending utility with moments of simple pleasure.
