The DRIFT Conference Table
Tempe
2010
The DRIFT Conference Table marked a turning point in my craft. Built in 2010 for the Gore Design Co. studio in Tempe, Arizona, it was the first project where several elements that define our work today came together.
It was the first steel rod base I ever fabricated. The first table sealed with our healthy, non-toxic reactive sealer - a finish that has protected and preserved every piece we’ve made since. And it was my first cast using a high-performance GFRC mix, an early step toward the advanced, crystalline silica-free concrete we now use for all projects.
The centerpiece of the table was a fabric-formed detail. But this wasn’t just aesthetic - it had purpose. The raised sections connected to stainless steel cables suspended from the rafters, creating an integrated lighting system that tied directly into the table itself. The table wasn’t just furniture, it was architecture, lighting, and sculpture, working together as one.
To this day, the DRIFT table remains one of my favorite designs. It represents experimentation, risk, and the pursuit of healthier, higher-performing concrete - a philosophy that continues to drive everything we do.
