The Fabric-Formed Concrete Bench
Scottsdale
2009
The Fabric-Formed Concrete Bench was created during one of our Concrete Design School workshops, where makers from around the world come together to learn new ways of pushing the material forward. This particular project was equal parts design exercise and functional innovation - a chance to show what fabric forming could achieve when applied to furniture.
The bench was cast in clay-colored GFRC concrete, only one inch thick, with a hollow interior. This gave it strength without unnecessary weight, making it practical for real-world use while maintaining a bold sculptural presence. To ensure longevity, it was sealed with our non-toxic, VOC-free reactive sealer.
Because of its hollow construction, the bench could be easily bolted to a slab - a detail that made it not only functional and innovative but also secure for outdoor or public spaces. It’s a design that proves concrete furniture can be lightweight, versatile, and inventive, while still offering the timeless durability that defines all of our work.
