Fluted Concrete Floor Tiles
The Fluted Concrete Floor Tiles were created for a one-of-a-kind residence on the side of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, in collaboration with Paul Moran Architects. The client had sourced handmade fluted clay tiles for the walls from Japan, but those were limited to a very small 3x3 inch format.
Our task was to take that same intricate fluting pattern and translate it into a large-format concrete tile suitable for the floor. The result: 2-foot by 4-foot concrete tiles, about a half inch thick, that carried the same rhythm and texture of the Japanese clay tiles while offering scale, durability, and permanence.
These tiles were designed to create a permanent “area rug” effect next to a sunken Japanese ofuro tub, blending seamlessly into the serene architectural environment. Cast in our Bone color and sealed with our eco-conscious reactive sealer, the tiles not only delivered the look but also the long-term performance the project required.
This project is a perfect example of how custom fabrication allows us to adapt and scale design details, ensuring that materials harmonize with the architect’s vision and client’s lifestyle.
