The FOIL Desk
Kansas City

The FOIL Desk was a study in restraint, balance, and precision. Designed for a project with Hufft Architects, the brief seemed simple: a single-piece desk in anthracite-colored concrete with a razor-thin profile.
The top and outward-facing sides were kept flat with a 1-inch edge profile, creating the appearance of extreme thinness. But strength came from subtle curves hidden on the underside and inside of the legs, where the concrete thickened to bear the load. The true complexity lay in the underside corners, where those curves intersected - an exercise in geometry and craft that pushed our team to innovate.
When complete, the FOIL Desk achieved exactly what it set out to do: combine minimalism with hidden strength, proving that concrete can be as refined as it is durable. A piece of furniture that doesn’t just occupy space - it commands it.
