Inclinaire Bench, first Hard Goods furniture design in concrete and steel

The Inclinaire Bench

Phoenix

2011

The Inclinaire Bench was the first step into a new era of design. It marked my initial foray into concrete and steel seating and became the very first piece developed for the Hard Goods furniture collection. While it’s no longer offered today, the Inclinaire remains a vital part of the story - an early design that shaped the aesthetic language Hard Goods has become known for.

The bench featured a 1-inch thick GFRC concrete shell, handcrafted for strength and refinement, and sealed with our proprietary reactive sealer - a non-toxic, VOC-free finish that we still use to this day. The base was hand-welded and powder-coated steel, giving it a distinctly mid-century modern vibe that feels just as relevant now as it did when first designed.

Built for outdoor use, the Inclinaire was as functional as it was beautiful. Details like an integral copper-lined drain aperture allowed water to pass through, proving that thoughtful craftsmanship could bring both longevity and comfort to outdoor seating.

It was the starting point of what would become the Hard Goods identity: authentic materials, refined forms, and a design language built to last for generations.
