The Mid-Century Modern Concrete and Steel Dining Table
Palm Springs
2013
The Mid-Century Modern Concrete and Steel Dining Table with accompanying benches was designed for one of Palm Springs’ most iconic mid-century modern furniture stores. It was a chance to blend our signature steel rod base designs - a typology rooted in mid-century modern language - with the durability and refinement of handcrafted concrete.
The tabletop was cast in clay-colored GFRC concrete, but what made it truly unique was the etched design. From above, the etching revealed an X-ray view of the steel base below, perfectly to scale and aligned with the structure beneath. It’s the kind of detail most people don’t immediately recognize, but once they do, it becomes a revelation: a secret glimpse into the engineering that supports the piece.
The benches echoed the same design language, pairing wood seating surfaces with matching steel rod bases for a cohesive, timeless look. Together, the set embodies what our work is all about - furniture that honors mid-century roots, embraces material honesty, and is built to last for millennia.
