Palo Verde Desk, custom concrete desk supported by desert tree stump

The Palo Verde Desk

Phoenix

2007

The Palo Verde Desk was born from a storm. After a monsoon swept through Phoenix, I came across a fallen Palo Verde tree - a desert icon with smooth green bark that looks almost like elephant skin. One trunk section caught my eye, and I hauled it back to the studio with no plan other than to give it a second life.

The result was a custom concrete desk supported by the rescued tree stump. To make the connection possible, I fabricated steel prosthetics that anchored the concrete surface securely to the organic base. The blend of natural wood, enduring concrete, and precise steel created a piece that felt both rugged and refined - an ode to the Sonoran Desert itself.

The desk debuted at the Modern Phoenix design show, where Phoenix DJ William Reed purchased it on the spot. Today, the desk resides with him in Los Angeles, continuing its story as both a functional workspace and a conversation piece.

This is what sets our work apart: design rooted in real materials, built to last for millennia, and connected to the stories of place and people.
