The Triangulum Dining Table
New York City
2012
The Triangulum Dining Table was designed for a residence in New York City’s world-famous Flatiron Building. With its iconic triangular footprint, the Flatiron is an architectural marvel - but it also creates unusual interior spaces that make furnishing a challenge.
Our solution was to craft a custom dining table in concrete, wood, and steel that fit the dining space with perfect clearances for both seating and circulation. The concrete surface, cast in our slate GFRC mix and sealed with our non-toxic food-safe sealer, provided durability and permanence.
The defining feature is the floating wood center island: a raised triangular section, elevated half an inch above the concrete top and separated by a subtle gap. This gave diners a natural communal space for serving dishes or a centerpiece. Above, a pendant light was centered on the table - creating a striking triangular light pattern on the floor that echoed the geometry of the Flatiron itself.
The steel rod base, hand-welded and waxed, carried our signature modern typology. Together, the materials spoke in harmony: concrete for permanence, wood for warmth, steel for structure. The Triangulum Table is a perfect example of how custom furniture can transform architectural challenges into opportunities for beauty and meaning.
