The Windemere Concrete Desk
Phoenix
2005
The Windemere Concrete Desk was more than just a piece of furniture - it was a milestone. This was the very first GFRC piece I ever created for a client, and it marked the beginning of a new era in my craft.
The project called for a long, thin desk, the kind of design that would have been nearly impossible with traditional concrete methods. But with our newly developed GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) mix, we were able to achieve strength, durability, and elegance in a remarkably slim form.
Cast in a charcoal tone and sealed with our non-toxic, healthy reactive sealer, the desk proved not only that GFRC was a viable material for fine furniture - it set the stage for decades of innovation that followed. What began as an experiment quickly became a foundation, showing that concrete could be lighter, stronger, and more refined than anyone thought possible.
